Public Speaking Skills Training: Jumpstart Your Career With Public Speaking Skills Training

Are you looking for a job, a new job or a way to advance within your current company. Look at these ways that you can use public speaking to find a job, find a better job or boost your career.

Public speaking is a great way to share your knowledge and experience with other people. It can be an effective way to improve your career as well. When you deliver a presentation within your company, at another company, or within your community it is a great way to market yourself. Through the marketing of the presentation, your name is established as an expert in your field. This name recognition can be the boost you need for your career development.

Delivering a business presentation will demonstrate your expertise. Using effective communication to share your experience will clearly demonstrate that you have knowledge in your subject area - knowledge that your audience is interested in. Your presentation will also show that you have the ability to research a topic - especially if you take the time to research an aspect of your topic which would be important for your particular audience. Delivering a presentation also shows your speaking skills and your ability to present. Expertise, effective communication, knowledge, ability to research and speaking skills are all things that prospective employers are looking for.

Public speaking events are also great places to network. If you are delivering a presentation within your current company will allow you to interact with colleagues that you don't normally see. If you are delivering a presentation within your community, you will be able to present your skills and knowledge to a group of people you may have never met before and establish yourself as an expert within your field at the same time.

Public speaking also keeps you sharp. Doing the research, developing your presentation, getting up and speaking in public are all activities that keep your mind sharp and improve your communication skills. These are all qualities that people look for in when hiring or promoting. People respect those that have the guts to get up in front of others and deliver a presentation.

Here are 5 ways you can use public speaking to jumpstart your career

1. Companies are always looking for speakers. Offer to deliver an educational presentation during lunchtime. For example, you could deliver a presentation on time management. Or offer to train a specific department. Do the research and deliver a training on effective communication skills to a customer service department. Companies are also looking for speakers for their seminars and company retreats. Research topics that local companies would be interested in and offer your services.

2. What should the presentation be about? Sit down in a quiet and relaxed place and begin writing a list of things that you have experience, knowledge or expertise in. Be sure to include topics that interest you (you can always do the research before your presentation). Basically what do you know or know about that others might find interesting or useful. Don't be afraid to include everything. For example, I know how to make a web page, speed read, meditate/stress reduction, deliver a speech, etc. make your list as long as possible. Some things will appeal to your more than others and some will be clearly more marketable than others. It's a good place to start.

3. If you are currently employed, offer to give presentations or trainings within your company. I did this early in my career, offering hour-long training sessions to my colleagues and it provided a great launching pad for my career. If you are job-hunting, then you will need to do a bit of research to find out what companies in your area might need. Call the company's HR department and ask if they are looking for speakers to deliver lunchtime seminars or if they need speakers for their seminars.

4. Deliver presentations to organizations within your community. You can approach business and professional organizations like the local Rotary Club, men's or women's organizations like the Junior League, even children's groups like the Boy Scouts, religious groups, etc. These organizations will give you the chance to present your expertise before a new groups of people. These people can then offer new opportunities for you and your career. Once again, sit down and make a list of organizations in your area.

5. Join your local Toastmasters. Toastmasters will allow the opportunity to improve your communication skills, improve your public speaking skills and network at the same time. Using these tips, you will give yourself opportunities to establish yourself as an expert, meet people who can help your career, and improve your public speaking skills all at the same time. You will also have an opportunity to have some fun.
