Public Speaking Training Courses: Overcome Fear of Public Speaking
Many people are afraid of public speaking. Can be related to your general self-esteem level, but it does not have to be. Even the most confident people with high self-esteems can feel fear specifically for public speaking. The good news is that it can quite easily be overcome.
If you want to overcome fear of public speaking, the first thing you need to realize is that public speaking skills depend on practice. If you find it scary to speak in front of others it is most likely because you have not had enough practice. People who find public speaking easy have done it (in one form or another) over and over again. This means that you can also get better at this with some practice.
When you decide to start practicing public speaking, start small. You don't have to speak in front of hundreds of people about a very serious topic on the first try. Take out a piece of paper and write down what kind of public speaking that you would like to be able to do eventually. Is your goal to become a stand-up comedian or is it to make presentations at your company? When you know what your final goal is, write down what could be the first mini-step towards that direction on the opposite side of the paper. It should be something easy that you feel comfortable doing already. It should not be too much of a stretch for you. Start with that as a practice, and then move through all the other steps until you reach your goal. If you get stuck somewhere along the way, repeat practicing the same step over and over until you feel comfortable about moving to the next step.
Ask yourself: what is the worst thing that could happen during my public speaking. Are people going to laugh at you? Ok, imagine all those people laughing at you and then think about a positive way in which you could handle that situation. Are you going to lose your job? If so, what could be a positive consequence of that? Is the worst thing that could happen really that bad? By simply thinking about what the worst case scenarios could be you may start to feel that even those worst case scenarios are not actually that bad. You are most likely not going to die even if your public speaking does not go as planned.
Every time that you practice speaking in front of others you will get more experience. This will give you more confidence in your own abilities and your self-esteem will raise. Even if you fail to do it as greatly as you would have liked to, you can still feel proud about having been brave enough to try.By: Liv Miyagawa: link
